The name Jagannath comes from two Sanskrit words: "Jagat" meaning universe, and "Natha" meaning Lord or master. He is thus the Lord of the entire universe — a form of Lord Krishna that is worshipped as the Supreme Absolute Truth in His most merciful and accessible aspect.
Lord Jagannath is most famous from the ancient temple city of Puri in Odisha, India, where He has been worshipped for thousands of years. His form is distinctive and unlike any other deity image — large round eyes, no arms or legs visible, a broad smile.
